Podcast: Charles Cooke on 2nd Amendment History and an Update on the Gun Sales Surge

In this inaugural episode, I cover the latest gun business news as the June sales numbers come in and a major gun company breaks records. I also have a detailed conversation with Charles Cooke from National Review over President Joe Biden’s recent claims about the history of the Second Amendment. He explains the Founders’ point of view on gun rights. He provides insight into how their view was abandoned in the 20th century and how the resurrection of their original intent is going at today’s Supreme Court.

Charles has long been one of the top conservative writers on the history of gun laws in America and I’m thrilled he was willing to be my first guest. Plus, we talk about his personal evolution from gun-hating Brit to gun-toting Florida Man.

  1. Great podcast! Mr. Cooke dove deeply and thoroughly into the history of the 2A. I love that his research (in Oxford, no less!) turned him into a gun supporter. Outstanding work, thank you.

    1. It makes me really glad to hear this kind of feedback. I was really happy to be able to get Charles to come on the first episode since he is so knowledgeable on the issue. He isn’t just repeating talking points that everyone has already heard before. I think he’s genuinely interesting and has a lot of unique insights to present.

    1. Never mind! I see you already answered that question. Glad to hear it’ll be on iTunes after a members only period. I am a member but iTunes is where I usually listen to things.

  2. Really enjoyed the discussion. I always enjoy hearing Charlie’s thoughts over at NR.
Fascinating discussion about the 2A history and a little bit into how it translates into restrictions. Would enjoy a deeper dive into what laws you think are compatible with the 2A and then a subset of that, which ones you actually think are good and support, if any.

    1. Thank you! I’ll try to do some more conversations like this in the future. I touched on that a bit more in my conversation with David French on the other podcast episode.

  3. I love the content….and I agree with everything you say….but brother, you need to stop saying “uh” every third word. And “like” as well.
