Leading Gun Company Backs NRA Reformers

Daniel Defense, one of the nation’s largest gun makers, just released a video backing National Rifle Association (NRA) reform candidates.

On Friday, founder Marty Daniels posted a message on the company’s social media accounts. He argued the NRA is vital to protecting the Second Amendment but said he’d stopped donating to it years ago over its long-running corruption scandal. However, he now believes the group has turned around enough to get involved again.

“The National Rifle Association has led the fight to keep and bear arms, but, as you know, they simply lost their way, and many people like me took a step back and refused to condone their behavior with our time and resources,” Daniel told customers in the video. “The message was heard loud and clear, and now change is on the way. With former leadership gone and new leaders at the helm, there’s a plan in place to revive the organization and restore trust with NRA members and all gun-owning Americans.”

Daniel’s return to the NRA comes after the group’s legal struggles finally ended late last year. While former NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, whose lavish spending during his time running the group led to the half-decade ordeal, resigned ahead of being found liable for mishandling millions, the final judgment in the case wasn’t delivered until months later. The company’s return to the NRA is another sign the group may be ripe for a fresh start and potential recovery.

Still, the NRA has a long way to go if it wants to get back to its former peaks. It has lost millions of members since the corruption scandal broke into public view back in 2018. Its revenues have also declined dramatically, culminating in major asset sales. The gun-control groups also outspent it during the 2024 election.

However, as Daniel said in his video, the NRA’s leadership has seen a significant turnover in recent years. At the group’s last conference, after years of trying, reformers won control of most NRA leadership positions. They also have most of the board on their side as well.

Now, they want to elect more reformers on the board. That’s where Daniel is hoping to have an impact.

“The NRA has removed their questionable leadership team, and with the right board in place, the NRA can become efficient, effective, and honorable once more,” he said. “To keep moving forward, we need a board of directors committed to accountability, transparency, and service. That’s why I’m urging all NRA voting members to back the NRA 2.0 slate.”

The slate of reformers, including 28 of the 49 candidates running for the NRA board, has committed to removing LaPierre’s remaining allies and instituting a series of reforms. Those reforms include shrinking the board itself and cementing transparency requirements.

“These reformers are committing to get back to the basics, back to the core values, back to the mission this organization was built upon,” Daniel said. “These reformers want to give, not take, but they need our help to make it happen. This is our moment to bring about necessary change to the NRA.”

Only lifetime and five-year members can vote in the NRA board elections. However, anyone who buys a lifetime membership before March 5th can vote in this year’s election.
